DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ:DTSI) is dedicated to making digital entertainment exciting, engaging and effortless by providing state-of-the-art audio technology to over a billion consumer electronics products worldwide. Founded in 1990 by entrepreneur/scientist Terry Beard and funded by Universal City Studios, Inc. and other investors in 1993, DTS (Nasdaq: DTSI) introduced its master-quality sound with the release of Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Jurassic Park. Working with Universal and just five employees, DTS successfully shipped and installed 876 DTS playback systems in theaters in six months. Motion picture sound was changed forever. Its innovative digital process quickly established DTS as a leading provider of premium quality, discrete multi-channel audio for cinema. Today, every major film studio in the United States uses DTS multi-channel digital sound, and virtually all major Hollywood feature films are released with soundtracks in the DTS format. In 1999 DTS opened offices in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
The offices were in a Warehouse Unit in Saba Business Park, fitted out by the landlord. We were brought in to design a specialist sound room for developing and testing equipment. This had to be acoustically isolated from the rest of the building and involved isolation membranes and double construction. The rest of the fit out included a staff relaxation and games area. A second phase developed a first floor storage area under an industrial metal roof into individual top lit offices.
